This cemetery was established in 1865 as a burial place for Union soldiers who died while being held at the Florence Stockade. The first woman to be buried in a National Cemetery, Florena Budwin, is interred at the Florence National Cemetery, which contains the remains of veterans from all major US conflicts. Just south of the
cemetery is the site of the stockade. Interpretive panels and selfguided tour brochures may be found at the stockade gazebo. The cemetery and stockade are open daily during daylight hours.
