Full Moon Hike and Mothing Event at the Swampside Tract
Swampside Tract | 16368 County Line Road, Andrews, SC 29510, United States
Let’s take a night hike on the Swampside Tract, watching the moon rise and scoping out some beautiful nocturnal moths while we are at it! In partnership with the Grand Strand Chapter of the Native Plant Society of SC, we will have an amazing time at the preserve.
The gates will open at 5:30 PM and our hike will start at 6:00. We will walk through the new Native Plant Garden and then into the property. The moon rises about 6:30, so we should have plenty of light! Plan on walking about 2 miles so wear good shoes (no slides or flip flops please). After the hike is over, we will end up back in the Native Plant Garden where the SCNPS will have put up a white sheet and lights to attract night time insects, known to be very active at night.
THIS EVENT WILL BE CANCELED IF IT IS RAINING. Wear long pants and closed toed shoes. Bug spray is discouraged for this event, though clothing treated with permethrin is allowed. Please consider wearing long sleeves and mesh netting to protect from mosquitoes instead of spraying. Bring a water bottle, chair if you’d like, and some enthusiasm!
Free of charge. Guests may leave when desired.
