South Carolina’s “Merci Train” World War II boxcar is located in Bishopville’s Memorial Park in the downtown. This boxcar, along with 48 more, was filled with gifts by French and Italian citizens in appreciation for US support after WWII. See our state’s boxcar as well as a statue of Medal of Honor recipient James D. Heriot in Bishopville’s Memorial Park.
